The idea for a pop-OUT-painting came from teaching design school students. By simply cutting, scoring and folding a single sheet of Bristol Vellum paper they created elegant 3D structures.

As a painter, I’ve experimented with different supports for making and presenting paintings. Having something lightweight, portable and handy is a nice option. With a few simple folds, this flat paper pattern becomes a 5x5” 3D artist's canvas. It has a blank front, sides that look like linen and a back with wood grain that mimics the canvas stretcher.

Finally, sharing art by giving or mailing a painting inside an envelope is fun, surprising, and personal.

You might also give a blank one to someone you think is creative!

Look at it this way ...

  1. The pop out painting is a versatile paper "canvas" ready for your art.

  2. With artwork on it, it becomes a work of Pop Art !

  3. Work on it flat for use with the envelope.

  4. Pop it to hang on the wall or place on an easel.

  5. Create more and you’ll have a ready-to-hang pop-up show.
